The Euroleague general assembly took place yesterday in the organisation’s brand new offices in Barcelona. Amongst others it was decided that the A licenses will be increased to fourteen.
The best news came from the financial aspect of the competition which improves its economic performance by 18% despite a bad financial year in almost all over the world.
At the same time the attendance grew by 24%, mainly thanks to Fenerbahce Ulker fans, while the capacity at Euroleague arenas was improved by 11%, compared to 2009/10 season.
Same goes for the Final Four profits which increased by 10%. On the sporting side of the competition, it was decided that the A licenses will be increased to fourteen, to facilitate Asseco Prokom with one. The licensing rules regarding the Spanish clubs were also changed while a new Euroleague qualifiers format was approved, consisting of two groups -each with eight teams and single-elimination tournaments- whose winners will proceed to play in Euroleague.
The 2011/12 campaign will tip-off in OAKA, on Monday, October 17 where Panathinaikos will host a team from their group. The Final Four will take place in Istanbul from May 11 to 13.

Finally, all Eurocup teams were approved as well, while the competition’s new offices were inaugurated in Barcelona and three meeting rooms were named after Zeljko Obradovic, Dejan Bodiroga and Sarunas Jasikevicius.
