After a disappointing season in NBA Darius Songaila is set to return to Europe in order to get his career back on track. Lithuanian forward is set to return home after 8 years in NBA.

Songaila was a member of Philadelphia 76ers last season. 33-year-old forward played only 10 games last season for the Sixers averaging 1.6 points and 1 rebound per game.

HoopsHype.com reports that Songaila should sign a contract with Lietuvos Rytas soon. The last time that Darius Songaila played in Europe was back in 2002-2003 season when he played for CSKA Moscow before moving to NBA.

Zalgiris was also interested in the player. GM Paulius Motiejunas stated in TV that the club will be watching Songaila in the national team before making a decision whether to offer him a cntract or not. It seems that Rytas acted faster in this case.

Although Songaila’s shape is under a question mark, he was invited to the national team after deciding to return out of international retirement. His last appearance for Lithuania was in EuroBasket 2007.

Lietuvos Rytas is also looking to add a point guard who is expected to be a foreigner. The club hopes to qualify for the next year’s Euroleague through qualifying tournament.
