Greece will not be among the candidates to host an Olympic Qualifying Tournament next summer, due to financial reasons.

The president of the Greek Basketball Federation, Giorgos Vassilakopoulos, confirmed the news, while speaking to the Greek website Sport24.gr

“We have filed our candidacy but we aren’t reliable regarding the financial terms, for which we have appealed to the government for about 90 days. Without any answer.

We aren’t responsible for this. We turned to the government but they are “deaf.” We haven’t received an answer in about one month and a half,” Vassilakopoulos mentioned.

Greece will be among the 24 countries that will participate in the Olympic Qualifiers. The other 23 are as follows:

Angola, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Puerto Rico, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, Slovenia, Tunisia, Turkey, Uruguay and Venezuela.
