Olympiacos have won their second Greek Cup in a row tonight as they beat the current European champions Panathinaikos, 74 to 68.

Olympiacos started the game better, using Bourousis in the paint, and he didn’t let his coach down after scoring five quick points and receiving two fouls by Vouyoukas, who started for Panathinaikos at the center position. Obradovic then tried his luck with Maric, but the result was the same, Olympiacos kept dominating on both ends of the court and as a result took an early lead of 14-6. The Greens found their balance when both Nicholas and Batiste came in and with a 7-2 run cut Olympiacos’ lead down to three. But Olympiacos’ deep bench talked at the end of the first quarter with Erceg and Halperin offering some easy baskets. Final score after ten minutes: 22-17. {jathumbnail off}

Same scenario at the beginning of the second quarter with Olympiacos expanding their lead, 31-23. Using Diamantidis ans Batiste pick and roll Panathinaikos managed to tie the game at 35 all. Panathinaikos got the lead just before half time, 37-39.

At the second half both teams concentrated their defensive efforts in the paint, letting their opponents shoot from outside. As a result it was the back court of both teams that took over scoring, namely Teodosic, Diamantidis and Sato. Olympiacos got back their comfortable lead, before Perperoglou scoring for 58-53 after thirty minutes.

The last quarter was worthy of the quality of both teams as the lead kept changing hands. Diamantidis did 59-60 from behind the arc, before getting an answer form Teodosic. The Greek champions ran out of fuel during the last two minutes and as a result Olympiacos turned 68-65 lead to a final 74-68 which gave them the chance to win more trophies since February 2010 than they had won in thirteen years leading to 2010.

Teodosic was the undisputed MVP of the final scoring 18 points, all crucial, and dishing seven assists. This is his second MVP at a Cup Final game, as he had won the award last season too.
