Eagles title run-in dealt massive blow

Newcastle Eagles have been dealt a major setback in their quest to win the BBL title, as star shooting guard Trey Moore has been sidelined for the remainder of the season with a suspected broken foot.

Moore, who leads the league in scoring (22.7) and assists (6.2) had to come off towards the start of the final quarter of his side’s 96-91 victory away to the Guildford Heat this past Sunday.

Eagles are currently second in the BBL table, level on points with league leaders, Mersey Tigers.

British Basketball League rules state though that if a player is sidelined, that team can bring in a replacement, if needed. Rumour has it that Newcastle Eagles are currently searching for a replacement to keep their title dreams alive.

The north-east side have already had to replace last season’s MVP Joe Chapman with fan favourite Reggie Jackson earlier in the campaign.

Eagles face a tricky run-in for the title – with just six games left, their fixture list includes home games against Glasgow Rocks and league leaders Mersey Tigers. Newcastle also face a tough trip to the south-west of England to play the Plymouth Raiders before completing their regular season campaign away to the Leicester Riders.
