Dwight Howard on JaVale McGee: “We need each other”

The Los Angeles Lakers big man Dwight Howard shared thoughts about his on-court relationship with another Lakers center JaVale McGee:

“The plan every time we step on the court is to be the best that we can be for this team. It’s not often that you have two guys that play the same position that can give you the same energy and the same effort night in and night out. For me, I just try to push JaVale as hard as I can every day in practice.

We need each other. It’s not about who starts, it’s not about who gets the most minutes, we need each other. It’s a long season. There might be some nights where he plays more minutes than me and that’s fine as long as we’re doing whatever it takes to win,” Howard said, per Lakers Nation.

Last season, McGee averaged 12.0 points, 7.5 boards, 2.0 blocks and 0.7 assists per contest. Howard, meanwhile, missed most part of the 2018-19 season owing to injuries, averaging 12.8 points along with 9.2 rebounds per game.
