Euroleague qualification, 3pt stats

Experts have had their say on what European basketball will look like after the implementation of the new 6.75arc and the new rectangular zone (the setback to 14-rule might lead to slightly more possessions, but won’t change the nature of the game). I’ve made it one of my priorities this season to keep track of how the new rules are influencing the game – and thus – statistics. The first gameday of Euroleague qualification yesterday happened to be the first official games played under those rules.

The two main contenders Khimki and Unics got the results they wanted, with Khimki edging Caserta 77:74 in Italy (with Keith Langford burying the game winning triple at the buzzer) and Unics winning 84:72 in Groningen. The standout performances of the day belonged to Milan Macvan (31 points, 13/16 shooting) and Maciej Lampe (26 points, 13 rebounds, 11/15 shooting) as both their teams are a safe bet to advance into the second round.
