At the end of the quarterfinal matchup between Australia and Czech Republic, history will be made.

It will be the first time one of these teams will have reached the semi-finals of a FIBA World Cup.

Australia is making their 12th FIBA World Cup appearance, while Czech Republic is making their first.

On their way to the quarter-finals, Australia has not lost a game, as they are 5-0 behind the stellar play of Joe Ingles, Patty Mills, Andrew Bogut, Aron Baynes and Matthew Dellavedova.

Czech Republic on the other hand surprised the basketball world and went 3-2 on their way to the quarter-finals, winning the tiebreaker over Greece and Brazil in the second round.

Their star guard Tomas Satoransky has averaged 15.2 points, 6 rebounds and 7.4 assists in the tournament.

Ingles and Satoransky have both flirted with triple-doubles and could find themselves directly matched up with each other.

Australia and Czech Republic share the ball well, as they both are averaging over 20 assists per game.

What players from each team have said about their team and the matchup:

“When we sacrifice for each other like that, it’s a great thing for us. There is no other group of guys I’d rather be out there going to war with than these bunch of mates,” said Aron Baynes of Australia.

“We’ve never played against Australia – it’s our first time here in the World Cup – so we want to play against them because those are the teams we never face in the FIBA EuroBaskets,” said Vojtech Hruban of Czech Republic.
