Turkey crush Slovenia, marches to the semis

TurkeyThe hosts of World Championship continue showing impressive as they beat Slovenia convincingly 95-68 in quarter-final. Turkey left no chances to their opponents and dominated the whole game.

Although it was expected to be a close game with potentially dramatic ending, the Turks were not going to let that happen. Slovenia’s last lead of the game was after three minutes of play when Bostjan Nachbar hit a three-pointer. Then it was all Turkey.

A fairly large 13-points deficit after the first 10 minutes of play was a sign for Slovenia to react and do it quickly. However, Eurobasket semi-finalists just couldn’t cope with the Turkish offence.

Turkey had a lead of 21 points midway through the second quarter. A blowout was in the making. The gap was only getting bigger since then. The final quarter of the game as just a formality.

Slovenia will play for 5th-8th place. Turkey, which usually struggles in major competitions, will aim to please the home crowd again as they will take on Serbia in semi-final on Saturday. The last time that Turkey won medals was back in 2001 when they hosted Eurobasket and went all the way to the final to claim silver.
