In a do-or-die game for both teams in Beijing, Venezuela overpowered hosts China (72-59) and qualified for the Round of 16.
Venezuela were in front for the majority of game and led by as many as 15 points to cruise to the victory.
For their part, China could not make a come-back and suffered a painful defeat, being eliminated from the Round of 16.
Four players scored in double figures for the winners, with Heissler Guilent leading the way with a game-high 15 points. On the other hand, Shuo Fang had a team-high 13 points for the losing squad.
Venezuela will face Russia and Argentina in the second round of the tournament.
