Serbia destroys Angola, Australia squeezes win out of Jordan

One of the favourites of the tournament, Serbia, started off the tournament in great style after destroying Angola without their two best players while in the other game of the group Australia came close to losing to Jordan but eventually got the two points.

Serbia might have been missing it’s A (Teodosic) – Z (Krstic) but they blew out Angola 94-44… yes that’s right, 50 (fifty) points difference…

Not much to ay (or rather write) about the game other than Serbia confirmed its status as one of the medal contenders of the tournament and the current Serbian basketball generation being creme de la creme of world basketball.

TalkBasket will be waiting for Serbia to play against heftier opponents in the upcoming days to seriously engage in a proper game analysis writing.

The Aussies must have expected a much much easier game but Jordan proved that they are playing in the World Championship by no mistake and pushed Australia to their limits who needed Andersen and Maric combine 45 points and 18 rebounds to barely take the win over the Asian team, 76-75.

the Arab team took the lead at the end of the first quarter 18-12 and were leading by seven at half time, 39-32. Australia turned the tables around and took the lead by the end of the third quarter, 56-55.

But Jordan had not said its final work and just over a minute to go to the game end were leading by as much as five points, 75-70. At that point Andersen, Nielsen and Mills got to work and with a 6-0 run the dying seconds made the final score 76-75 to seal the most thrilling game of the opening day.

It is worth to mention Zaid Abbaas who was fighting with the Australian big guys almost alone putting down great numbers: 20 points and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes.
