Evan Fournier was unstoppable offensively (26 points) and led France past Germany in a late thriller in Shenzhen (78-74).

The French guard/forward made a double-double, also grabbing 10 rebounds. Amath M’Baye added 21 points for the winners.

On the other hand, Johannes Voigtmann (25 points) and Dennis Schroder (23 points) combined for 48 points for the losing squad.

France made an explosive start (14-0), but Germany cut the deficit to four in the second quarter (21-17), thanks to a 7-17 run. The French, though, brought their lead back to double digits at halftime (36-20), behind a 15-3 run of their own.

Yet, the Germans didn’t give up again. Improving their overall performance, they were down by just three, with two minutes to go (71-68).

Fournier and Rudy Gobert, though, scored crucial points in the final seconds and sealed the deal for France.

France will face Jordan on Tuesday (03/09), with Germany battling the Dominican Republic.
