Greece march to the semis

GreeceGreece earned a hard fought Eurobasket 2009 quarter-final win against Turkey 76-74 and will continue battle for the medals. Eurobasket 2005 champions limited Turkish star Hedo Turkoglu to zero points till the fourth quarter and were holding a small lead.

Fans in Katowice witnessed a great game as the winner was decided only after an overtime. Although Turkish leaders Hedo Turkoglu and Ersan Ilyasova were kept scoreless for a large part of the game other players stepped up to keep their team in the game. Omer Onan had 13 points as he hit three three-point shots.

Panathinaikos' guard Vassilis Spanoulis led Greece with 23 points. 27-year-old hit some vital shots when his team was behind in the fourth quarter. He also turned the ball over 7 times. Some of those turnovers were made during the overtime and could have costed Greece a win. However, Turkish players were unable to score when the ball was put in their hands.

Greece will face Spain in the semi-final while Bogdan Tanjevic's side take on France for 5th-8th place.
