Leo Westermann talked about his decision to leave Zalgiris Kaunas during the summer and sign with Fenerbahce.

Here is what the French guard told Donatas Urbonas of 15min.lt:

On his decision to join Fenerbahce: “I really thought I would stay in Kaunas. I had no plans to leave. But, when the summer came and the offer came, I had to make a decision. Now I’m a member of Fenerbahce.

I could leave Zalgiris only for the two or three top teams. In my eyes, Zalgiris is, without a doubt, a Top 8 team across Europe. Maybe even more. So there were only a few options to leave the team.”

On Zeljko Obradovic and Sarunas Jasikevicius: “He’s [Zeljko Obradovic] the only coach in Europe that I’ve always dreamed of practicing and playing for since childhood.

When you play under him you always know you have the best chance of winning the EuroLeague and playing on a top-tier team.

He’s [Obradovic] like Saras. He’s like Saras. He is tough on the court, shouts on you. But off the court, he is an amazing person. They share a pretty similar basketball philosophy. I’ve heard only the best things about Zeljko.”
