Timofey Mozgov leaves NBA to join Khimki

Khimki Moscow Region has signed veteran center Timofey Mozgov to a one-year deal, for what will be his third stint with the club.

Mozgov (2.16 meters, 33 years old) has spent the past eight seasons in the NBA, spare a period back with Khimki during the 2011-12 season. He played for New York, Denver, Cleveland, Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn during that time and averaged 6.8 points and 4.9 rebounds in 454 games. Mozgov won the 2016 NBA championship with Cleveland. He did not play at all last season due to a knee injury.

Mozgov returns to the EuroLeague for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign, when he averaged 6.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.9 blocks over 16 games for Khimki.

Mozgov began his career with LenVo St. Petersburg and also played for CSK VVS-2 Samara before joining Khimki as a 20-year-old in 2006. He also spent many summers representing the Russian national team, with which he won respective bronze medals at EuroBasket 2011 and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
