Great Britain to play USA in Olympic warm-up

Great Britain men’s and women’s teams will square off against the United States of America in pre-Olympic warm-up games in Manchester, next year.

The exact dates of both games, at this time are yet to be confirmed.

These games will no doubt present the Brits with their toughest tests, as they prepare for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Chicago Bulls star Luol Deng, himself a Great Britain international is excited at the prospect of facing his NBA counterparts.

“I cannot think of a more exciting prospect for fans in the UK than to see Great Britain play the USA basketball men’s national team in Manchester in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games,” Deng said.

USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo was looking forward to the pre-Olympic clash: “The USA-Great Britain games in Manchester will be a terrific prelude to the 2012 London Olympic Games.

“The games are key components in the 2012 training plans for the USA’s men’s and women’s national teams. I’m sure that both the USA teams will feature some of basketball’s best players and coaches, and I’m confident the games will be memorable events for all basketball fans.”

The games will be played at Manchester’s Evening News Arena. The arena can hold up to 18,100 people, and arena staff are predicting a ‘quick sell-out for both games.’
