Italy will not ask for a WC2010 wildcard

ImageThe Italian Basketball Federation Council met in Rome yesterday to discuss many matters concerning Italian basketball. Amongst others it was decided that the Federation will not apply for a wildcard for the World Championship 2010 in Turkey, since the chances were already slim.

Instead, the Italian Federation, under Chairman Dino Meneghin, decided to apply for hosting and organizing the Eurobasket 2013. Greece, Germany, Croatia and Slovenia are also reported to be candidates, with the latter two considering to apply for a joint hosting.

It was also decided that Stefano Mancinelli is to be disqualified from the next two games of the National Team, due to his involvement in the brawl during the friendly game against Canada last summer.

The coach matter is still open, as it is uncertain whether Carlo Recalcati will continue or not and with Simone Pianigianni and Bogdan Tanjevic being reported as candidates.
