Per the Russian website Izvestia, the VTB League has decided to make some changes in the upcoming season.

The first change will see the number of teams reduce from 14 to 13, as VEF Riga has withdrawn its participation in order to focus on the Latvian championship and the Basketball Champions League.

According to the report, there will be no replacement of Riga in the VTB League.

The second change will refer to the playoffs. All play-off series will be decided in a best-of-three series, instead of best-of-five.

The reason is the participation of three Russian teams in the 2019/20 EuroLeague (CSKA Moscow, Khimki, Zenit Saint Petersburg) as well as the changes in the competition.

In addition, all domestic leagues will finish earlier than usual, due to the 2020 Olympic Games.

These changes will be made official in the next meeting of the VTB League.
