Spanish ACB League has officially expressed opposition to the new EuroLeague licensing system which should come into effect starting from the 2020-2021 season.
According to the official announcement, the ACB declared a “firm rejection” unilateral change which will eliminate direct qualification to the EuroLeague through national leagues.
The strongest domestic league in Europe, which currently delegates four teams to the EuroLeague (namely 3 license holders in Barcelona, Baskonia and Real Madrid plus EuroCup champions Valencia), was dissatisfied with diminishing importance of national leagues.
As reported earlier today, the new licensing rules will among other things substitute domestic league access by three Associated Annual Wild Cards (Adriatic League Champion will have priority for one of the three annual associated club wild cards due to not having either a licensed nor a multi-year associated club).
