Sergio Rodriguez took to Twitter and announced that he will not play for Spain in the 2019 Basketball World Cup.

The Spanish guard will skip the World Cup in order to spend more time with his family and recover from his injuries.

“It has been a tough and complicated decision, because, for me, playing with the Spanish national team and representing my country during these 15 years has always been an exciting priority.

But, I have to be honest and this time, I don’t think I’m in a position to help the national team in this new challenge in the China World Cup,” Rodriguez mentioned.

The 33-year-old player has won medals in all competitions with Spain, including the 2006 World Cup (gold), the 2012 Olympic Games (silver) and the 2015 EuroBasket (gold).

Rodriguez helped CSKA Moscow win the 2019 EuroLeague title.
