Italy and Slovenia are the last two standing

As Lithuania finalises their preparation for next Summer’s EuroBasket, the decision of who gets to host the 2013 event isn’t far away either.

The deadline for applications as a host country has now closed, FIBA Europe has announced that there are two countries that have declared interest in hosting Europe’s biggest basketball event.Slovenia and Italy are the two nations that are interested in becoming the future hosts for EuroBasket 2013.

“We are more than happy to have two countries with great basketball tradition competing to become the hosts of the EuroBasket” commented FIBA Europe President Olafur Rafnsson.

“Both countries have a great passion for basketball and it is always good when tradition and passion come together” added FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin.

At some point, the FIBA Europe Evaluation Commission will start reviewing all the documents that were sent in by Slovenia and Italy – then there will be site visits, as FIBA learns more about what Slovenia and Italy has to offer.

At the end of the year, the board at FIBA Europe will hold a meeting – where both Slovenia and Italy will have the chance to present their bid to the whole board of FIBA Europe.

The board will then decide who will become the host of the EuroBasket 2013.
