Mighty Joe Returns To Eagles

Joe ChapmanNewcastle Eagles have re-signed shooting guard Joe Chapman for his second season at the club. The Marquette graduate had a stellar year with the club winning league title and trophy honours, including a stellar shooting performance in the BBL Trophy Final to seal the win.

After a slow start to the season Chapman built his role in the side and was picked British Basketball Journalist’s Player of the Year, top scoring on the Eagles roster with an average of 18.7 points per game and 41.3% from three point range.

Chapman can’t wait to get moving for the 2011 season and said; ‘I’m very excited about this upcoming year. There are still a lot of things to prove from a team point of view. We won the league but we didn’t win the play-off championship. That’s my motivation so to all Eagles fans; let’s get ready to fly again!’

Eagles managing director Paul Blake said; ‘We are pleased to have Joe back with us again this season. He has great shooting ability as a player but is also a battler, which we saw time and time again in the last half of the season. He is a true professional and we are looking forward to another year with him.’

Joes early season preparation will also include a trip back to the States to take part in Fox Sports Network’s Replay The Series. Joe’s high school team will replay a now legendary state championship game that was shrouded in controversy. For more information on this game, go to www.replaytheseries.com.

The club will be announcing further additions to the roster in the coming days, prior to their first home game of the season against Sheffield Sharks on the 24th September at Sport Central.
