Domestic Leagues roundup: Friday, May 24

In most of the major European domestic leagues, the playoffs were in full action on Friday night (24/05).

In Russia, Khimki edged Unics Kazan on the road (98-103) and tied the best-of-five series (1-1).

Alexey Shved led the winners with 25 points. Six more players scored in double digits for Khimki. Jamar Smith (20 points) and Errick McCollum (13 points) were the best players of the losing squad.

Game 3 will be played in Moscow on Monday (27/05).

In a must-win game, Armani Milano defeated Avellino on the road (80-86) and tied the Italian League quarterfinals (2-2).

Armani led for the majority of the night and saw James Nunnally finish the game with 28 points. Demonte Harper had a game-high 29 points for the losing squad.

Game 5 will be played in Milano on Sunday (26/05). The winner will face Sassari in the semi-finals.

In Germany, Bayern Munich earned a commanding 2-0 lead against Braunschweig, following a 74-84 win in Game 2.

Braunschweig came back from a 20-point deficit (16-36) and tied the game (67-67). Yet, Derrick Willams sealed the deal for the Bavarians, who now are very close to the semi-finals.

Williams had 17 points and eight rebounds for the winners. On the other hand, Christian Sengfelder scored 28 points for the losing squad.

Rytas Vilnius will play in the Lithuanian League Finals for a second straight year. Rytas rallied past Neptunas (83-70) and swept the best-of-three series (2-0).

Rytas, which led from start to finish, will now clash with rivals Zalgiris Kaunas, with the Finals starting on Tuesday (28/05). Rytas will attempt to return to the top of the league and win its first title since 2010.

In Croatia, Cibona is close to claiming the title. They defeated rivals Cedevita at home (90-82) and earned a commanding 2-0 lead in the Finals.

On the other hand, Cedevita, which is the reigning, five-time Croatian champion, will attempt to even the best-of-seven series. They now host the next two games, which are both must-win ones.
