Italian Lega A Gameday 4 roundup

ImageGameday 4 of Italian Lega A saw Montepaschi Siena destorying one of their main rivals, AJ Milano away – and easily one may add. Roma achieved a great away win over Ferrara while Avellino beat Benetton Treviso in overtime. Read all about it below.

Milano – 79: J. Maciulis 19 pts + 7 rebs (5/8 2p, 2/4 3p, 3/3 ft), M. Petravicius 18 pts + 6 rebs (5/11 2p, 8/11 ft), M. Finley 11 pts + 3 asts (4/9 2p, 1/3 3p)
Siena – 91: R. Sato 25 pts + 4 rebs in 28' (6/6 2p, 3/5 3p, 4/4 ft), D. Hawkins 19 pts + 5 rebs + 7 stls + 1 blk (7/10 2p, 1/5 3p, 2/4 ft), T. McIntyre 14 pts + 9 asts (1/2 2p, 4/11 3p), H. Domercant 13 pts in 18' (1/2 2p, 3/6 3p, 2/2 ft)

Milano played well, especially Maciulis and it was a tight game. Siena (still without K. Lavrinovic and McIntyre wiith a minor injury) had to fight hard and needed a great effort by Hawkins and Sato to get the job done.

Napoli – 49: D. Tsaldaris 17 pts (5/7 2p, 2/4 3p, 1/1 ft), K. Muurinen 11 pts (4/7 2p, 1/2 3p), R. Gabini 11 pts (1/2 2p, 3/8 3p)
Caserta – 89:   E. Ere 24 pts + 6 rebs in 24' (7/9 2p, 3/6 3p, 1/1 ft), Jum. Jones 19 pts + 5 stls (1/4 2p, 4/6 3p, 5/& ft)

Terrific win on the road for Caserta in this derby. Napoli really couldn't do much with so many absences (Adeleke and Gigena suspended, Skele couldn't make his debut due to bureaucratic delays) and other problems (Kruger played his last game, Drobnjak and Gabini were half-injured). Jumaine Jones clearly won the challenge vs the other former NBAer Damon Jones who had a very poor shooting night. One more great game for Ebi Ere, one of the most pleasant surprises so far. It is rumored Napoli is going to officially sign Robert Traylor and John Lucas III, while Mario Gigena should rejoin the team.

Teramo – 66: V. Amoroso 18 pts + 6 rebs + 2 stls (4/12 2p, 3/5 3p, 1/2 ft), Bobby Jones 14 pts + 5 rebs (4//7 2p, 2/5 3p, 0/1 ft)
Virtus Bologna – 69: L. Hurd 16 pts + 8 rebs (3/5 2p, 2/3 3p, 4/8 ft), D. Moss 15 pts + 5 rebs + 3 blks, 4 stls + 3 asts (5/8 2p, 0/3 3p, 5/5 ft)

Teramo really struggled in the 2nd half facing Virtus' slow-paced basketball. After Bobby Jones' 4th foul, the home team totally lost control (a really poor game for Poeta), letting Virtus come back and win thanks to another good effort by Hurd, but do-it-all David Moss – former Teramo star – also played very well.

Biella – 89: P. Aradori 27 pts + 5 rebs in 27' (3/6 2p, 5/8 3p, 6/7 ft), S. Schultze 12 pts + 4 rebs in 17' (0/1 2p, 4/6 3p), Fred Jones 11 pts (3/4 2p, 1/6 3p, 2/2 ft), JT Smith 11 pts + 4 asts (2/3 2p 2/4 3p, 1/2 ft)
Cremona – 82: M. Cusin 15 pts + 7 rebs + 2 stls in 20' (5/6 2p, 1/2 3p, 2/3 ft), EJ Rowland 15 pt + 5 rebs + 4 asts (4/6 2p, 2/5 3p, 1/2 ft), T. Bell 13 pts (2/5 2p, 1/5 3p, 6/6 ft), G. Forbes 11 pts + 5 rebs + 3 stls (3/6 2p, 0/4 3p, 5/6 ft)

Talented Pietro Aradori is playing great basketball lately, proving his offensive skills (15.8 ppg in just 27 minutes of playing time). This season is expected to be his breakout season.

Pesaro – 60: Marq. Green 28 pts + 4 rebs + 4 asts (6/10 2p, 5/12 3p, 1/1 ft) ; N. Mazzarino 19 pts + 7 rebs (4/5 2p, 1/5 3p, 8/8 ft), M.Mian 18 pts + 4 rebs n 21' (2/4 2p, 4/4 3p, 2/2 ft), Jer. Green 12 pt (2/4 2p, 1/2 3p, 5/6 ft)
Cantù – 75: B. Ortner 10 pts + 7 rebs + 2 blks + 3 stls + 2 asts (5/13 2p)

One-man show for Marques Green, but it that wasn't enough. Cantù won despite Othyus Jeffers' (injured) absence. Pesaro remains winless (0-4).

Ferrara – 71:   A. Grundy 22 pts + 5 rebs + 6 asts + 4 stls (9/15 2p, 1/3 3p, 1/1 ft), Y. Sangarè 12 pts + 5 rebs (1/5 2p, 3/3 3p, 1/2 ft), H. Jamison 10 pts + 0 (!) rebs (2/4 2p, 6/9 ft), L. Jackson 10 pts (3/7 2p, 1/5 3p, 1/1 ft)
Roma – 88: I. Jaaber 25 pts + 4 rebs + 4 stls (5/6 2p, 5/8 3p), R. De La Fuente 17 pts in 23' (5/6 2p, 1/1 3p, 4/4 ft), K. Winston 13 pts + 5 stls (4/5 2p, 1/5 3p, 2/4 ft)

Easy win for Roma on the road, but the best news for them is De La Fuente (who was a persona non grata until a couple of weeks ago) keeps on playing well, such a new and useful addition for Roma. Ferrara still having some troubles with injuries, so they just officially inked veteran SG Istvan Nemeth who spent last season playing for AEK Athens.

Avellino – 82 (OT):   C. Troutman 24 pts + 16 rebs + 5 stls (9/13 2p, 6/10 ft), DaM. Nelson 15 pts + 7 rebs + 4 stls (6/10 2p, 0/5 3p, 3/3 ft), Dee Brown 15 pts + 4 asts (2/6 2p, 2/8 3p, 5/8 ft), S. Szewczyk 10 pts + 8 rebs + 3 blks (1/3 2p, 2/8 3p, 2/2 ft)
Treviso 82 (OT): G. Neal 26 pts + 6 rebs + 3 stls + 3 asts (5/10 2p, 4/9 3p, 4/6 ft), CJ Wallace 13 pts + 5 rebs + 3 asts (5/9 2p, 1/2 3p), D. Kus 10 pts + 5 rebs + 3 asts (2/6 2p, 0/2 3p, 6/6 ft), J. Hukic 10 pts + 7 rebs + 3 stls (2/2 2p, 2/8 3p)

Though Dee Brown was a bit hurt and Cenk Akyol got injured after just 4 minutes (fractured wrist; he should stay out for at least 2 months), Avellino beat Treviso (both teams were undefeated) in the overtime. Szewczyk made 2/2 from the fcharity line in the last seconds of the game, but Hukic made the game-tying shot and sent the contest to the OT, where Avellino did better thanks to Troutman (game MVP), Nelson and Dee Brown. Avellino joins Siena as the only team at 4-0.

Montegranaro – 73: M. Marquinhos 17 pts in 25'(3/4 2p, 2/4 3p, 5/6 ft), R. Hite 14 pts (4/6 2p, 2/4 3p), G. Brunner 11 pts + 12 rebs + 3 blks (4/10 2p), D. Ivanov 11 pts + 12 rebs (4/6 2p, 0/3 3p, 3/3 ft)
Varese – 85: Job. Thomas 20 pts + 5 rebs + 4 asts (5/8 2p, 2/3 3p, 4/4 ft), N. Martinoni 16 pts in 25' (6/9 2p, 1/1 3p, 1/2 ft), G. Galanda 13 pts (6/11 2p, 1/1 ft), S. Cotani 12 pts + 6 rebs (3/4 2p, 6/8 ft)

Varese dominated the game from the beginning, even without their main offensive weapon, injured Ron Slay. Another great game for talented youngster Martinoni (on loan from Treviso). A very precious victory on the road against a team that will play for the same target (avoid the relegation).
