Preparations continue with the Thunder Cup

Worthing ThunderWorthing Thunder Basketball Club's preparations for the 2009/10 British Basketball League (BBL) season will move on apace with the 2nd Annual "Thunder Cup" on Saturday 19th September at the Worthing Leisure Centre.

With new Head Coach Dave Titmuss' preparations moving ahead following the pre-season camp at Chichester University last weekend, the tournament will give the Thunder supporters their first chance to see the new team in action. Last year's champions, DART Killester, are returning to defend their crown, and they match up against the hosts in the second game, which tips off at 3.30 pm.

The first match sees last year's third place team in the BBL, Guildford Heat, under new player/coach Chad McKnight, take on another team returning from last season, the London Leopards. Coach Jon Burnell will be using the tournament to gauge his team's strength against the BBL side, given that they face Cheshire Jets in the BBL Trophy later this season. That game tips off at 2pm.

Following the two semi finals, there will be a three point shoot-out at 5pm, before the two losing semi- finalists play off at 6pm.

The final of the tournament will tip off at 7.30, with the trophy being awarded at approximately 9pm.

The price for seven hours of basketball action is a bargain £3 for both adults and children. Season ticket holders get free entry as part of their package and the doors open at 1.30 pm.

Before then there is a chance for supporters to meet new Head Coach Dave Titmuss this coming Wednesday (9th) in the Shaftesbury Room at the Leisure Centre at 7pm. Following this will be an open forum for supporters to air their views.
