Durant to bolster Riders inside

Leicester RidersJelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders have signed 6'8" English centre Shaun Durant for the 2009/10 season.

The 27-year-old was the BBL's second leading rebounder with an average of 11.2 boards per game in 2007/08. He also added 11.3 points per game for Worcester Wolves in their best BBL season.

"Shaun is a player I admired when he played for Worcester," Paternostro said. "I thought he was the unsung hero for that team. I also felt he didn't get a chance to show the full range of his abilities at times because they were a very guard dominated team that year, so he didn't get many touches offensively.

"I'm excited about him because he has a lot of ability and I think he gives us some stability under the basket. He is a strong British player, just the sort of guy we love bringing to Leicester."

Last season Durant played in Switzerland for Lausanne Morges Basket and he has also had brief spells in Spain and France.

"His rebounding ability has been consistent at every level he's played at – in college, at Worcester and in Switzerland – he can flat out rebound. I put a heavy importance on rebounding, so when we had a chance to grab Shaun, we jumped at it because we feel like he can be a really successful player for us."

Paternostro has recently returned to Leicester from a scouting mission in America, so further signing activity is expected over the next few days.
