New and Spinks add bite

Mike NewMarshall Milton Keynes Lions today announced the re- signing of 6'9" Power forward / Centre, Mike New, and the return of 6'5" Captain Dru Spinks.

New, a graduate of New Mexico State University will enter his fourth year and second spell with the Lions after playing in Milton Keynes during the 2002-03 Basketball season.

Lions' Head Coach Vince Macaulay is ecstatic about the continued stay of a player whose influence extends far from the basketball court. "Mike is a work horse" said Macaulay, "He only knows how to give 100%, as our Academy Director he is the perfect man to influence the young men and women who enter the MK College Basketball Academy, whilst on court he lets the rest of the team know that they will have to give of their best"

New had a dual role as Assistant Coach with the Lions last season whilst combining the role of Academy Director. He averaged 13. points and 7 rebounds per game, shooting 87% from the free throw line and 51% from the field.

Macaulay added "Mike is a true professional, he and I felt there was some unfinished business from last season, we weren't happy with certain things and decided on one last go round, I am glad to have him back"

Spinks, already the Lion's longest serving player returns for season number 12. The former England International, lifted the club's first Trophy in 2008 and is keen to do the same this season. "I am convinced we let it slip by last season and enter this season with a real desire not only for myself but to keep my team mates on point. The club is growing fast and we need to match that on the court" said Spinks.

The forward played many positions for the Lions and last season, averaging 7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 20 minutes of action, also shooting 84% at the free throw line. Macaulay added, "Dru does what it says on the tin – Hard nosed, blue collar worker and great defender – that's it, we can put him on practically any player and he will do a great job of slowing them down, this season is a big one for Dru and I am excited for him"
