In a radio interview with Sport24.gr, the owner of Panathinaikos, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, addressed the situation regarding the match against Olympiacos.

“I think it’s not fair to pay so much attention to a wrong move. It was really blown out of proportion. I want to apologize to the basketball world, except for Olympiacos.

It was a humorous move. If it was that bad, then I should face the repercussions. It’s a public apology to Panathinaikos’ players, as this move outshined the win on the court and the wonderful fans that attended the game,” Giannakopoulos said.

Panathinaikos won the Greek Cup semi-final (20-0), after Olympiacos decided to forfeit the game and didn’t play in the second half.

The “Reds” are expected to be sanctioned for this move and may be deducted up to six points, yet the sanction will refer to the Greek Basket League standings and not the Greek Cup.

The “Greens” head coach, Rick Pitino, also expressed his dissatisfaction for what happened on Wednesday’s (13/02) game.
