ACB Play-Offs: TAU, Real Madrid and Barcelona win while Gran Canaria shocks Unicaja

Spanish ACB LeagueIn the Game 1 of the ACB quarter finals which started on Saturday and was completed on Sunday the favourite teams won the games, except Unicaja who were stunned by an almost perfect Gran Canaria performance.

The play-offs tipped off on Saturday evening when Real Madrid hosted DKV Joventut amidst the rumours that the new upcoming president of Real Madrid will make quite a lot of changed in the basketball section of the team. Real Madrid achieved a convincing win in front of about 7000 of their fans behind the 14 points of Bullock and 10 by Massey and Reyes. DKV Joventut was no match for Real Madrid, especially after Ricky Rubio got knocked out with an injury during the second quarter of the game. Final score: 79-63. The seriousness Rubio's injury is yet to be determined. The second leg of the series will take place tonight, this time in DKV Joventut's home court.

On Sunday noon TAU delivered a difficult win over their Basque archi-rivals Bilbao Basket. Igor Rakocevic was once again TAU's top scorer eith 18 points scoring 11/12 from the charity line while Splitter, Prigioni, Mickeal and McDonald all scored double digit numbers to help the Serb guard to lead the team to a 1-0 lead in the series with the score being 90-86.

But it was not just TAU who almost gave a heart attack to their fans as Barcelona also beat their opponents Pamesa Valencia with just two points difference, 68-66. Pamesa Valencia who has threatened to leave the ACB due to the bad handling of the Euroleague contracts did their best to brake Barcelona's home advantage but it was the home team who prevailed in the end. Their domestic duo of Vazquez and Navarro led the way while Andersen offered a lot of solution in the offensive end. Pamesa tried to take advantage of their strong front court of Nielsen and Perovic, but unfortunately for them, they came a bit short.

Last, but not least – on the contrary, the shock of the weekend came in Malaga where the home team Unicaja suffered a shock blow by Kalise Gran Canaria who escaped from Pal. De Deportes Jose Ma Martin Carpena with the away win 96-90. Gran Canaria were led by their American duo of Sanders and Norris who scored 17 and 10 points respectively.
