Spain survived Ukraine, officially qualified to the World Cup

Spain edged Ukraine at home (72-68) and became the sixth European team that secured its place in the FIBA World Cup.

It was a close game for three quarters (20-14, 39-31, 54-48), with the visitors remaining competitive for the entire game.

With 20 seconds left, Ukraine were down by four (70-66) and had the opportunity to “steal” the victory, however Volodymyr Herun couldn’t score and, consequently, the Spaniards sealed the win.

Jaime Fernandez led the winners, with 17 points, while Quino Colom and Sebas Saiz had 12 points apiece.

Four players scored in double figures for the losing squad, with Vyacheslav Bobrov posting a game-high 21 points.

Spain improved to 8-2, whereas Ukraine dropped to 5-5.
