Fenerbahce survived Olympiacos in a late thriller

Nigel Williams-Goss missed the two-pointer at the buzzer and Fenerbahce escaped from Piraeus with a big victory over Olympiacos (72-73).

In a close game from the opening tip, Kostas Sloukas scored the last six points for the Turks and gave his team a four-point lead (69-73). Kostas Papanikolaou made a three-pointer and cut the deficit to one (72-73), with 36 seconds to go.

The “Reds” had the chance to win the game, but Williams-Goss missed the two-pointer and Fenerbahce stood tall and emerged victorious.

Although the hosts were in front by eight in the second quarter (35-27), the visitors went on a 4-12 run to tie the game at halftime (39-39). Later, Olympiacos played great defence and conceded just 11 points to take the upper hand in the match (53-50).

Fenerbahce remained competitive, though, and made some big shots to win the game and stay close to the top of the standings.

Sloukas led the Turks in scoring with 20 points, as Nikola Kalinic added 16.

On the other hand, Papanikolaou scored all his points in the second half (18), with Giorgos Printezis posting a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Williams-Goss contributing 13 points.

Fenerbahce improved to 6-1, whereas Olympiacos dropped to 3-4.
