Israeli giants Maccabi Tel-Aviv are reportedly in talks with the Lithuanian coach Rimas Kurtinaitis, who is currently unemployed after leaving Rytas Vilnius at the end of last season.

Basketball commentator Vaidas Ceponis, who knows Kurtinaitis in person, shared the news on Facebook. According to him, Obrad Fimic (the agent of Kurtinaitis) is in talks with Maccabi about the possibility of his client taking over the reigns from Neven Spahija.

Sveiki, ereliai:) Kas geresnio? Turiu šiek tiek naujienų. Tokių rimtesnių. Bedarbio Kurtinaičio agentas Obradas Fimičius…

Reportedly, the club is not satisfied with the results this season so far and are already holding talks with potential candidates. Per Ceponis, despite having a wealth of knowledge, Spahija is too strict and demanding, which creates an unnecessary tension within the team.

Ceponis claims that Spahija could be sacked soon, if Maccabi lose this week against Herbalife Gran Canaria in the EuroLeague. Maccabi are currently 13th in the EuroLeague with one win in six games.

According to Ceponis, Kurtinaitis wants a long-term deal, which would include not only the remainder of this season, but also at least one more season.
