Unicaja Malaga ends Unics Kazan’s undefeated streak in overtime

Unicaja Malaga survived Unics Kazan in overtime (82-80) and put an end to the Russians’ undefeated streak in the EuroCup.

An 8-0 run in the overtime gave the Spaniards their straight victory in the competition. Both teams now have identical records (3-1).

Jaime Fernandez led the winners in scoring with a career-high 23 points, as Brian Roberts added 14. On the other hand, Pierria Henry had a team-high 21 points, along with seven rebounds, for Unics Kazan, with Trent Lockett contributing 18 points and Maurice Ndour 14.

It was a close game from the opening tip, as neither Unicaja nor Unics could take a significant advantage (16-16, 36-33).

Later, the visitors went on a 14-24 run to take a seven-point lead (50-57). But, the hosts responded and saw Mathias Lessort make two free throws to tie the game, with 8.3 seconds to go, and force an overtime (70-70).

Unicaja had the momentum on their side in the extra time and edged their opponents to earn a crucial victory.

In the other matches, Limoges defeated Tofas Bursa at home (89-81), Alba Berlin cruised to a 14-point win over Arka Gdynia (82-68), ASVEL Villeurbanne escaped from Belgrade with a big victory over Partizan (79-89) and Turk Telekom prevailed over Trento on the road (77-81).
