ALBA Berlin and Valencia dominant in EuroCup season opener

ALBA Berlin and Valencia triumphed over Tofas Bursa and ASVEL, respectively, in EuroCup’s opening day.

A 33-16 run in the fourth quarter helped Alba Berlin cruise to an easy victory over Tofas Bursa at home (107-91).

Five players scored in double figures for the winners, while Peyton Siva came one step away from the double double (nine points, 14 assists).

On the other hand, Demonte Harper had 20 points for the losing squad, with Diante Garrett adding 17 and five assists.

Valencia outscored ASVEL 20-6 in the fourth quarter and decimated their opponents at home (84-62).

Will Thomas led the team in scoring with 16 points, while Bojan Dubljevic contributed 14 points and six boards. Louis Labeyrie posted 13 points for the Spaniards.

Charles Kahudi had 13 points and six rebounds for the French team, with Miro Bilan adding 12 points and seven boards.

Lokomotiv Kuban beat Arka Gdynia on the road (73-80), thanks to a 26-16 run in the third quarter.

The hosts were in front by one at halftime (32-31), yet the Russians enhanced their performance in the second half and defeated their opponents.

Isaiah Whitehead had 17 points and six rebounds for the winners, while JaJuan Johnson came very close to the double-double (10 points, eight boards).

Robert Upshaw had 15 points and nine rebounds for Arka Gdynia, as three more players scored in double figures.

Crvena Zvezda went on a 26-14 run in the fourth quarter and easily prevailed over Ratiopharm Ulm at home (88-73).

Billy Baron led the Serbians with 19 points, with Joe Ragland and Stratos Perperoglou adding 17 and 14, respectively. Michael Ojo made a double-double (14 points, 10 boards).

Isaac Fotu had a team-high 16 points for the Germans, with three more players scoring in double figures.

Nigel Hayes and Zach Auguste led Galatasaray past Andorra in Istanbul (84-73).

The two players scored 19 and 18 points, respectively, with Malik Harrison contributing 15. Dylan Ennis had 20 points for the Spaniards, but couldn’t help his team be victorious in the game.

In the opening match of the new EuroCup season, Rytas Vilnius edged Unicaja Malaga (80-72), thanks to a 26-17 run in the fourth quarter.

Eimantas Bendzius led the team in scoring with 18 points, with Evaldas Kairys adding 15. Mathias Lessort had 16 points for the Spaniards and Brian Roberts contributed 13.
