Rising star Ricky Rubio filed a lawsuit against his team in order to put pressure on them and reduce his 6 million dollar buyout clause. 18 year old Rubio bases his claims on the gap between his salary (aprox 70.000 euro) and the amount Joventut demands to release him, set on a contract that has 2 more years left and was signed when he was only 15.
During the season the board of Joventut offered to reduce the buyout to 3mil dollars if the player agreed to extent his contract and if the buyout would be doubled in case a non NBA team made a move on the player. The deal was firstly declined by the players side, but towards the end of the season it was accepted with the team's side rejecting it then.
A solution must be reached soon as the draft aproaches.
