According to Marc Stein from The New York Times and Shams Charania from The Athletic, Minnesota Timberwolves consider acquiring the 33-year-old two time All-Star Luol Deng, who spent his last two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, to their roster.
Despite the fact that on July 7, 2016, Deng signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Lakers, his career in Los Angeles did not work out well since the beginning of 2016-2017 season.
During his first year in LA Deng appeared just in 56 games and scored 7.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in 26.5 minutes. Second season was even worse – he played in one game overall and scored 2 points in 13 minutes.
Last week he was finally waved from the Lakers team and became unrestricted free agent. If Deng decides to join the Minnesota Timberwolves, he will be coached by Tom Thibodeau – the same coach under whom he played in Chicago Bulls in his prime.
Knowing that three Deng’s former Bulls-era teammates – Jimmy Butler, Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson – already playing in Minnesota, it might look that Thibs is trying to have “a great shot at the 2013 NBA championship!” (Eric in Madison).
