The president of the Spanish Basketball Federation, Jorge Garbajosa, talked to the Spanish news agency, EFE, and referred to the feud between the EuroLeague and FIBA concerning the calendar and the World Cup Qualifiers.

“The World Federation and the national federations have to work for their top clubs, the national teams, for the young talents, for schools. On the other hand, the EuroLeague is an elite club, which consists of people who think they own basketball. But, basketball exists for the fans, for the federations, for the clubs. Basketball is a beloved sport and the fans want to see the players and clubs compete at the highest level,” Garbajosa said.

“We have a great relationship with the ACB, despite our differences. Regarding the EuroLeague and FIBA, everyone can have an opinion whether the World Cup windows are good or not. Τhe “windows” are not the problem, though. It’s the consequence. In other sports, the calendar is so organised that allows the players and clubs to participate in the international competitions,” he added.
