Oklahoma City Thunder forward Alex Abrines had an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca and criticised Barcelona’s decision to not include Juan Carlos Navarro in the roster for the 2018/19 season, forcing him to retire.

Although the legendary Spaniard has said he wants to play for another season, the Catalans are not willing to offer him a place in the roster ahead of the new season.

Abrines talked about this issue and couldn’t understand why the “Blaugrana” made that decision: “Well, I don’t know. I haven’t talked to him. The only thing I can tell you is that he wants to continue playing. I don’t know what the club thinks or what they will offer Juan Carlos but it makes me sad how it’s ending. He is the best Spanish player in history, removing Pau and maybe Marc, and he doesn’t deserve this. I would like him to continue for a year until he can retire with his head held high and winning some titles,” said Abrines.

Navarro has spent almost his entire career with Barcelona and wanted to play for another season, before retiring from professional basketball.

The 38-year-old guard now is in talks with the club to solve the situation, as he has signed a 10-year contract with the team, which enables him to become an executive, once his career is over.
