Valencia advances, sends Fenerbahce home

Fenerbahce suffered their third consecutive loss in the final game of Group H, completing a terrible second round and failed to qualify for the quarterfinals after losing to Valencia with 82-68.

What started like a dream with the away win over Olympiacos in Piraeus for Fenerbahce, ended up in a nightmare as the Turkish side lost all of their games in the second round of  Group H which kept them out of the quarterfinals. On the other hand all Valencia needed was a 3-point win.

In that frame the two sides started the game nervously with buckets coming after a lot of effort for either side. Darjus Lavrinovic scored four and Roko Ukic added two in the beginning of the game and the Turkish side seemd to be more concentrated with the 2-6 early lead. Dusko Savanovic scored six consecutive with two tripples before Javtokas laid it is for the 10-6. Ukic and Tomas gave the lead back to Fener painting the picture of what where were in about for the best part of the first half.

Nando De Colo scored a goal-foul late in the second quarter, giving the hosts a 7-point lead for the first time in the game, which they would keep up until halftime (39-32).

Svetislav Pesic’ kept that lead until the 27th minute when the best player of the Turkish side, Emir Preldzic made this a 1-point game after two consecutive triples (48-47). De Colo and Augustin however, took over for the hosts and with 4 apiece restored order and gave their team a 9-point lead before the teams went into the final break with Valencia being up with 59-52.

Fenerbahce tried to come back in the final period, came as close as 5 midway in the quarter (63-58), but that was about it. The hosts trotted rather easy to the final 82-68 from that point on.
