Sergio Scariolo might be stepping away from Spain job

Spain coach Sergio Scariolo might be stepping down from his position, according to reports in the national media.

Scariolo, who has led Spain to Eurobasket glory in 2009, 2011 and 2015, plus has helped them to silver and bronze medals at London 2012 and Rio 2016, respectively has a contract that runs out in 2020.

According to Spanish outlet, Marca, Scariolo wants to return to day-to-day coaching activities with a club.

The Italian-born coach has had offers from various teams in Europe, including home-country teams FIAT Turin and Virtus Bologna. But his priority remains to join an NBA team as an assistant.

“I always had proposals to go to the NBA as an assistant but never as the ones I had this season,” Scariolo told Marca.
According to another Spanish outlet, Encestando, the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) considers Valencia head coach Txus Vidorreta as a favourite to succeed Scariolo.
