Following AEK Athens’ Basketball Champions League victory, its team owner Makis Aggelopoulos doesn’t believe that the EuroLeague is the top competition.

The EuroLeague is widely regarded as the top domestic league outside of the NBA with the Champions League, run by FIBA considered the third-tier event behind the EuroCup.

Aggelopoulos though doesn’t believe that to be the case.

“I will disagree that EuroLeague is the top competition,” he said to Greek media.

“At this point, there’s no reason to discuss EuroLeague, since there’s no 10-year contract for us on the table. There’s no point to participate for a couple of years.

“EuroLeague doesn’t have the athletic criteria that we fellow. I think that the participation to European competitions should come through the national championships.”
