Andrei Vatutin still in contact with Dimitris Giannakopoulos

CSKA Moscow president Andrei Vatutin has said that he is still in contact with Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos despite the latter’s intentions of leaving the EuroLeague after this season concludes.

According to the Greek side, Vatutin was supportive of the outspoken owner Giannakopoulos, and his request to be able to watch Panathinaikos games, but his words were not translated in a proper way during the meeting.

Regarding the Panathinaikos matter and owner (Dimitris Giannakopoulos) “demarche”, we should distinguish the emotional aspect from the strictly business part,” Vatutin said in a written statement posted on the CSKA website.

“Panathinaikos has participated in the competition (EuroLeague) for many years and its an old partner of ours in matters of EuroLeague development. It’s also a club with great history, faithful fans, and great tradition. None of the club representatives set a question of expelling Panathinaikos. Personally, I would like to see common sense prevail, emotions getting subsided and Panathinaikos continuing in the competition,”

CSKA also states that they are in constant contact with all other EuroLeague clubs, with Panathinaikos being no exception.
