EuroCup quarter-final, game one round up

After a lengthy break, the EuroCup quarter-finals began on Tuesday as the best-of-three series featuring the final eight teams,   Lokomotiv Kuban, Gran Canaria, Bayern Munich, Unics Kazan, Buducnost, Darussafaka Istanbul, Reggio Emilia and Zenit St. Petersburg.

LOKOMOTIV KUBAN EXTEND UNBEATEN EUROCUP RUN

In a thrill that went down to the wire, Lokomotiv Kuban took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three EuroCup quarter-finals by edging Gran Canaria 79-74 at home.

Gran Canaria hosts game two on Friday and is now in a do-or-die situation. Dmitry Kulagin led the winners with 20 points, seven of them in the final three minutes as Kuban extended their unbeaten run in the EuroCup to 17 games.

DARUSSAFAKA EDGE GAME ONE AGAINST BUDUCNOST

Darussafaka Istanbul got another big game from star guard Scottie Wilbekin to edge Buducnost 57-54 in game one of the teams’ best-of-three EuroCup quarter-final at the Volkswagen Arena.

Coach David Blatt’s team will look to finish the series on Friday in game two in the Montenegrin capital, but Buducnost will be confident after nearly pulling off the upset in Istanbul. Wilbekin produced 16 points to lead the winners.

 

BAYERN OVERPOWERS UNICS KAZAN

Bayern Munich used a big offensive second half and Vladimir Lucic scored all of his 14 points in the fourth quarter in holding off visiting Unics Kazan 83-75.

Bayern never trailed in the second half but Unics kept threatening. In the end, Lucic and Devin Booker made key baskets down the stretch for Bayern to hold on. Booker collected 16 points and nine rebounds.

REGGIO EMILIA TAKES OVER ZENIT

Jalen Reynolds posted a double-double to lead Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia to a 75-61 victory over Zenit St Petersburg in the opener of the teams’ best-of-three EuroCup quarter-final series at PalaBigi.

Reynolds dominated inside with 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting plus 11 rebounds in less than 20 minutes for the victors.
