Slovakia outlasted Bosnia & Herzegovina 100-95 in a thrilling triple-overtime contest in Group A of the Eurobasket Women 2019 qualifiers.
Zofia Hruscakova led the Slovakians with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to take her side to 3-1 in the group. 39 points and 19 rebounds from Bosnia’s Marica Gajic wasn’t enough.
In the other Group A clash, Montenegro also improved to 3-1 as they took hardly any time to dismantle Iceland 69-37 behind 14 points and 15 rebounds from Glory Johnson.
Great Britain’s men might not have enjoyed the greatest of days with the news that their head coach had stepped down, but that certainly didn’t deter the women from making it two wins in less than a week as they beat Israel 76-74 in their Group D game in Tel Aviv.
Temi Fagbenle led the way with a double-double of 21 points and 14 boards, while long-serving captain Stef Collins added 19 points and 10 rebounds. Greece joins Great Britain on 3-1 after they breezed past winless Portugal 81-59.
And while there were some closely-fought results, tonight’s round of international women’s basketball witnessed perhaps the biggest mismatch as Russia remained unbeaten by beating Albania 148-35 in Group C. Maria Vadeeva scored 24 points in 19 minutes in the 113-point win.
