Amedeo Della Valle enjoying his new responsibilities with Reggio Emilia

Reggio Emilia guard Amedeo Della Valle has not hidden away from his extra responsibilities with Reggio Emilia ahead of their final pool game in the EuroCup against Group B winners Bayern Munich.

The Italian side needs to beat Bayern on Wednesday in order to advance to the next phase of the EuroCup. They currently sit on a 4-5 record in Group B. However, they will have the home crowd behind them when the two sides meet.

“To be honest, in basketball, anything can happen,” Della Valle said ahead of their critical clash with the German side.

“They are a great team and have not lost yet, but why not? Why can’t we give them their first loss? They are better, for sure, but in the position that we are in, we have to try our best to do it – and we play at home. We have to bring out our energy.

“We are not going to win the game by doing something technical or tactical better than them because they are loaded. If we bring out more energy, more toughness, then we can compete.”

Reggio Emilia captain Della Valle himself is in excellent form this season, the 24-year-old is second in the competition for scoring with an average of 18.1 points a game and ranks in the top five for steals with 1.8 takes in nine games.

Among the veterans that he has played alongside with, Della Valle states that he is relishing his new role with the club this season, and it certainly reflects in his stats.

“It is a big role because I am also the captain of the team,” he says.

“It is a big responsibility that the club decided to give me. I like to take this responsibility, but this is not a one-man show. Like you said, I am almost leading in scoring and am first in index rating, but it is a team game. Right now, it is my moment and hopefully, it will keep going for a long time.

“For example, I didn’t play in Jerusalem, but the other guys were able to step up, and that is what’s most important.”
