Real Madrid’s run of bad luck in the frontcourt has continued with the club’s announcement on Tuesday that center Gustavo Ayon will be sidelined indefinitely due to a shoulder injury. Ayon was hurt in a Spanish League game against Iberostar Tenerife over the weekend.
Further testing confirmed that Ayon will need to undergo surgery to his left shoulder in the coming days. Ayon is averaging 11 points and 8 rebounds, second-best in competition, through five Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games this season in which Madrid has a 4-1 record, tied for first place.
Ayon joins another big man, Ognjen Kuzmic, on the injury list. Kuzmic is out for the season due to a severe knee injury. A third Madrid center, Anthony Randolph, missed two games with his own injury, but has returned to action.
