Baskonia brings in Pedro Martinez to replace departed Prigioni

Just a couple of days after Pablo Prigioni announced he was stepping down as head coach at Baskonia, the club announced Pedro Martinez as his successor

Martinez has agreed to a deal that keeps him in Vitoria until the end of the current season plus the next campaign.

The 56-year-old, arrives from Valencia, where he won the Liga Endesa last season and also reached two more finals: the Spanish King’s Cup and the 7DAYS EuroCup, where the team lost to Unicaja Malaga.

He was also named Coach of the Year in the EuroCup. It was Valencia’s most successful season to date. Martinez already coached Baskonia during the 2005-06 season, so this will be his second stint on the Baskonia bench.

With Martinez’s addition, Baskonia hopes to revert the disappointing results with which the team has started the season and which led to coach Progioni resigning.
