Up to 5,500 Slovenia fans to arrive in Istanbul for Sunday’s final

Slovenian fans have always been known as a loud and colourful bunch, and on Sunday they will look to make the Sinan Erdem Dome a sea of green.

It has been reported that up to 5,500 Slovenia fans will make the trip to Istanbul for Sunday’s Eurobasket final, where they will take on Serbia.

Via Eurohoops:

This will be a historic game for Slovenia as a basketball association as well as a country.

According to sources, 5.500 Slovenians are expected to arrive in Istanbul for Sunday’s final against Serbia.

If the report is true, it’s welcome news for FIBA’s organisers, who have been made to sweat with attendances during the knockout stages in Istanbul. Overall, since hosts Turkey were eliminated, crowds have shrunk considerably with the 2015 Eurobasket final attendance of 27,372 dwarfing the total attendance figures of 19,802 for this year’s quarter-finals and semi-finals combined.

SEMI-FINALS:

Spain-Slovenia: 4,955

Serbia-Russia: 5,235

QUARTER-FINALS:

Italy-Serbia: 3,046

Greece-Russia: 2,070

Slovenia-Latvia: 2,651

Germany-Spain: 1,845

So if the report is true, then Slovenia might at least give Eurobasket 2017 an attendance figure over 10,000, which hasn’t happened since Turkey’s loss to Spain in the round of 16.
