Ettore Messina claimed the cheerleaders had a better view than he did

Italy coach Ettore Messina claimed that the cheerleaders had the best view of the action as he watched his side lose to Germany earlier tonight.

It was a subpar Italian display as they shot just 30 percent from the field totalling just 55 points in their six-point loss to the Germans, led by 17 points from Dennis Schröder.

“Today, we played a mediocre game against a well-organised team,” Messina said.

“We lost and we deserved it. We did not play well, we were not phenomenal. The best sight [on the] court? It was the cheerleaders.

“We played without any mental control”, continues the coach. “There was a sense of haste. We were not at all disciplined. Now I want to talk to the team and see. I have to help them calm down because of all this pressure.”

Italy face a vital final day battle with Georgia to stand a chance of qualifying from Group B.
