Slovenia star Goran Dragic has announced his international retirement following Eurobasket, the player himself put on Twitter.

He thanked the fans as he played his final game in Slovenia; a narrow 74-73 win over Croatia in Ljubljana.

The 31-year-old began his senior men’s career in Japan at the 2006 FIBA World Cup following a brief time at junior level. His minutes started to increase at Eurobasket 2009 in Poland and at the 2010 World Cup in Turkey.

Following a successful tournament at Eurobasket 2013 in Slovenia, Dragic was named team captain following the retirement of Jaka Lakovic. But it was clear that the demanding NBA schedule was taking its toll on Dragic.

Now, with prodigy Luka Doncic making his mark with the national side, the time seemed to be right for Dragic to call time and focus on his responsibilities with the Miami Heat.
